In order to provide equipment for rural schools to participate in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks has donated an archery kit to Colby Community College. The kit will be provided to participating schools on a rotational basis. The $2800.00 donation of equipment includes (11) bows and stands, (60) arrows, (5) targets, and an arrow curtain for backstop. The College and participating schools wish to express their gratitude to Kansas NASP coordinator Gary Keehn and the Department of Wildlife & Parks for their generosity. Pictured below presenting the equipment are Wildlife & Parks local employees Matt Bain, District Wildlife Biologist, and Benny Young, Conservation Officer. Basic Archery Instructor

Colby Community College completed a second training session for Basic Archery Instructor on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Schools represented were Fort Hays State University, Ruppenthal Middle School in Russell, Kansas and Smith Center Elementary School. The 8 hour certification class enables instructors to teach the NASP program at their respective schools and qualify students for regional, state, and national competition. Scholorships are available to top shooters at the national level.

NASP Basic Archery Instructor Certification
Colby Community College hosted National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) training for ten (10) school districts and eighteen (18) instructors on April 23, 2008 on the Colby Community College campus. All training was done inside the college gymnasium with the following schools participating: Almena USD 212, Brewster USD 314, Colby USD 315, Healy USD 468, Hoxie USD 412, Oberlin USD 294, Otis-Bison USD 403, Phillipsburg 325, Quinter USD 293, Smith Center USD 237. Colby Community College will begin offering NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) training to elementary, middle school, and high school instructors in the Spring of 2008. Training is scheduled for April 23, 2008 on the Colby Community College campus. Participants will meet Wednesday morning, April 23rd at Room 107 of the Student Union building. There is no cost for the 8 hour Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) training. Instructors must be certified to teach the NASP program so that students can participate in local and regional tournaments.
